Do things happen for a reason? 2003-01-29 @ 7:00 p.m. Do you believe everything that happens, happens for a reason? That there are higher forces out there either working for or against us and whatever happens there is a purpose for it? I'm never quite sure if I believe this, but after today I am starting to think there might be something to it. Today me and seven others were driving home in the company van after being out of town overnight for work. Three hours from home, I, smart as I am and just a simple passenger mind you, managed to lock the van's keys in the car. Ya, I know, how dumb can I get, and how stupid I felt. Everyone was really great about it though, including my boss. I think I got four hugs there and one more when we got home, they told stories of when they locked themselves out and said more than once that we were meant to stop for a while other wise something was going to happen. It took a good half an hour to forty-five minutes before the tow truck came and managed to break in for us and then we were back on the road. It was snowing and the roads were getting rather icing, we could feel the van going from side to side as we talked about songs, pasted car accidents, and other antidotes to keep us going. Awhile down the road we came up to this really bad accident, two cars looked to have hit head on or close to it, at least one person in each car was still inside and trapped by the looks of it. There were ambulances and police everywhere and the sky instead of being snow blow with fading light, was lit like a christmas tree with red, blue and white flashing lights. To say the least it wasn't something I wanted to see, especially when we still had two hundred kilometres to go on the icy roads before reaching home. The part that gets me wondering if things do happen for a reason was that where the accident took place was right around the area we would have been in had we not had to wait to get in the van. Chances are, that had we been on the road we would have been in that accident or been witness to it, in both situations possibly having to try to save a few lives. After that, I stopped feeling stupid and bad for what I did and took it to be that maybe it wasn't such a bad thing we were held up for that short time. Who knows if we really would have been anywhere near that accident, but we all made it home safely tonight and either way I am really glad for that. So do things happen for a reason? Maybe yes, maybe no, but I got a thank you hug once we got home so at least one person on our crew believes that and was more than happy to be stuck at 7-11 when we knew where else we could have been stuck. For today I think I believe to. |
